Everyone is familiar with basic alarm systems. However, there is a certain lack of knowledge and uncertainty about which type or method is recommended in each case. Article 2 of the ministerial order INT/316/2011 defines four degrees of security that encompass alarm or protection systems. The grade 3 alarms in Barcelona (and in any city) are somewhat better known, as they are mandatory in certain businesses.
Characteristics of grade 3 alarms in Barcelona
The classification of the systems into grades is based on the characteristics that each system offers and for which situations it is recommended. These grades are:
- Grade 1: low risk. These are alarms that are not connected to an Alarm Receiving Centre or control centre, but use acoustic signals to deter intruders.
- Grade 2: low to medium risk. Most of the security systems that we normally use fall into this classification. It includes those alarms that we install in the home, in shops, businesses, etc. that are connected to an Alarm Reception Centre or control centre. There are companies, such as Dumo Seguridad, that take care of both installing the alarm devices and making the connection with the control centre so that the action is always much faster and more efficient.
- Grade 3: medium to high risk. As we mentioned, there are certain companies or businesses that are obliged to contract certain security systems, for example, grade 3 alarms in Barcelona, such as jewellers or petrol stations, due to the activity they carry out or the amount of money they can move. Whatever type of alarm you have (CCTV and video analysis cameras are recommended), it must be connected to an Alarm Reception Centre or a control room.
- Grade 4: high-risk areas. This includes those areas with the highest risks, such as military installations, companies containing explosives, powder magazines, security companies, etc.
However, even if we install a Grade 2 system in our properties, it is often advisable to connect it to a video surveillance camera even if it is not mandatory. Ideally, it is best to combine several methods to achieve the maximum possible protection.
Am I obliged to install it in my business?
There are several types of businesses and establishments that are required to install grade 3 alarms and must upgrade their security systems by 18 August 2021, according to the regulations.
These establishments are: Jewellery shops, armouries, lottery administrations, art galleries and all establishments that, due to their activity, are obliged to have a safe. For more information, please consult the regulation document.
